Doubleffe - Ignorance Is The Enemy
After more than 1 year from his last single release, London-based Techno artist Doubleffe returns to Coma Records with a 4 track EP entitled “Rebellion”, a radical fistful of electronic beats, funk, and political messages.
The A-Side of the Extended Play takes inspiration from the current senses of uncertainties and inequalities that the world is currently experiencing. Much like Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing in the Name”, “Straight to Hell” by the Clash and Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” before it, the opening track “Insurgence” is a rallying cry for the youth to strike out at inequities amassed onto the weak by the powerful, with an incessant beating over the head of pounding sonics. “Ignorance Is The Enemy” continues the assault of reconstituted political ideas with a fat kick-drum right in the listener’s face, barely controllable bombast, and devastating synths riffs.
Still, the B-Side is influenced by the terrible atrocities that some areas of the world are under. “Bombtrack (Back The Fuck Up!)”, with its heavy-industrial inspired groove, is influenced by the atrocities taking place in the Gaza Strip, proving how issue-orientated, intelligent, and with a purpose, this release is. The closing track, “The Mediterranean Sea”, maintains the call to action for change that dominates the record, this time by focusing on victims of persecution, wars, violence, and/or poverty. It’s an incredibly hypnotic audio experience, lumbering along at a steady pace, just as the subject mentioned in the track title, before shifting into a deep and futuristic beat, before returning to its origins, almost in contrast to the power of sound and aggression which is present in the first 3 tracks of the record.
