More than a year has passed since Erick Morillo decided not to face his rape charges, choosing to end his life in his house in Miami on September 1st, 2020. Following such gesture, tributes praising Morillo poured onto social media, with numerous electronic music exponents, from Joseph Capriati to Carl Cox, Camelphat, Jamie Jones, Nic Fanciulli, Dennis Ferrer, Steve Lawler, Black Coffe, Marco Carola, The Martinez Brothers wAFF, Anane, Sven Vath, Pete Tong, YOUSEF, Danny Howard - the latter faces and voices of British public broadcaster BBC - and many others, making some very disturbing comments, without once, taking the time to address Morillo’s victim/s.

For this reason, last year we launched a petition to close Danny Howard and Pete Tong’s shows on BBC Radio 1: change.org/p/bbc-close-danny-howard-and-pete-tong-s-programs-on-bbc-radio-1.

One year has passed and these individuals have never taken the time to apologize, nor has the BBC taken any actions towards Howard and Tong, - who have both recently co-hosted the BBC Radio 1 Dance Awards with YOUSEF and his brand Circus incredibly winning the Dance Impact Award (A person, collective or institution that has made a legacy by pushing Dance music forward in 2021) another horrendous public representation - , with a publicly financed body that should not allow such individuals to have a National/International platform where to showcase their persona.

This is because their position offends the millions of people living in the UK, and those honest workers, who are trying hard to make a change for the better in the sector.

What is even worst is the total silence, and negligence, among most media outlets, indicating the level of compliance and omertà within “the scene”, a sort of crooked clique.

We ask Aled Haydn, now the head of BBC Radio 1, to remove Danny Howard and Pete Tong from any radio/tv or further programs/shows, festivals, or else. We also ask the award being conferred above to be withdrawn and offered to those who have led by example during their careers, and even more so during the pandemic.
