COVID-19 passes are set to become mandatory in England for nightclubs and music venues from next week, in order to “tackle” the number of cases that have been recorded lately (which have been high since the fast reopenings over the summer for political reasons, such as local elections), and the new variant, which was always coming with the total reopening of activities, the lack of safety measured, and unnecessary mass social gatherings (such as the Euros, club nights, festivals, sports events, restaurants, bars, cinemas and else), all of which have been vigorously supported by numerous magazines, ticket sellers, artists, club owners, agents, and else, which have actively contributed to such measures being implemented.
As we previously indicated, the so-called “Freedom Day” was nothing of such, thus inviting every club, promoter, artist, and else, who cares/cared about the future, to show disdain against the incompetence shown by Governments around the world, and safeguard the sector from being demonized, by ceasing any forms of events/gatherings.
The message was neglected, and these are the consequences.
Nonetheless, COVID-19 passes are already are mandatory in Scotland, Italy, and France, with very weak effectiveness in regards to containing the high rate of contagion, with the three countries facing exponential growth in cases, and further restrictions, with France recording more than 50,000 cases per day in early December 2021, Scotland facing a ‘tsunami’ of infections, and Italy extending the state of emergency.
As such, we do not consider COVID-19 passes as adequate measures, which have incredibly lacked over the course of the pandemic -, hence why we felt the urgency of launching a petition, more than a year ago, asking for the total suspension of all mass gatherings activities, until an adequate protocol is designed and implemented.
Furthermore, within a world that already presents huge disparities among people, measures that further the emargination of certain individuals from society, are very much inappropriate, even more so within inclusive (at least originally) environments, such as those of Club Culture.
For such reasons, we invite every operator, promoter, artist, and professional from refusing to take part in such a segregational process, by avoiding participation to any form of event, joining us towards #REBUILDOURSCENE for the better, and the many, not the few.
